When I got pregnant with my son I was pending surgery to remove a pretty good sized stone. Because I got pregnant, we were gong to wait until after I had him to remove the stone. When I had the x ray done a year later the stone was completely gone. Is there a hormone that my body produced during pregnancy that disolved the stone?

I have another correlation between hormones and stones that I am curious about. I got my first stone when I was 12 years old (had just had my 1st period.) All during puberty I constantly passed my stones and was on birth control from the time I was 15 through 25. After I stopped birth control I no longer pass any stones. They just form great big huge stag horns but I never pass any gravel or anything. Is there any correlation or am I just reaching for something?

interesting, Madelyn, I'm not previously familiar with these things happening. Pregnancy is associated with higher more dilute urine flows so I guess it's possible to wash out a stone with time, but I haven't heard this story before. Similarly, the differences that account for people passing smaller stones vs. forming bigger ones is unknown. I think this has to do with when a stone gets ripe, and no one has studied this. It's an interesting topic. Sorry I can't shed light on these phenomena. I hope you do well.

Madelyn - very interesting post. I didn't have my 1st stone until after the birth of our 1 and only child. He was only 6-8months old...when that 1st stone episode hit. It was strange because, according to the Dr.'s I should have been experiencing stones clear back as an adolescent. that 1st episode consisted of the "mother of all stones" & 16 "babies" in the left kidney. I always swore that the pregnancy had something to do w/pulling the trigger on things....but never had anything to substantiate my theory. I would be interested in knowing if anyone else experienced same?

Yes I also passed my first stone at 21 after birth. I had my tubes tied and kept complaining to the Doc. but he attributed it to the tubal. Low and behold 6 days later I passed my first stone.
They compare these stones to "childbirth" NOWAY, I would have 50 kids before another stone.
Best............ Carol
