I have heard that when a person has Cystinuria don't grow much in height. It is true?
Anyone may confirm this assertion? Anyone can tell of this in your experience with cystinuria?
I dont know and i'm not sure of this but i'm 1.48m tall.

Any doctor has said me that my height is a miracle considering my Cystinuria.

I would like to know more on this subject...

Talking here all together.

Bye!

I was diagnosed with cystinuria at age 10, and the urologist told my parents that I might be a bit shorter than average.

Today, I'm nearing 34, and I'm 6'2".

If the statement that cystinurics tend to be short is a valid one, I guess we're two exceptions! :)

Sorry, we're still back in the english units here in the US. ;)
6 feet and 2 inches = 1.88 meters

1.48 meters = 4 feet and 10 inches

The average (white) American male will measure 5 foot - 10 inches tall, while the average (white) American female will measure 5 foot - 5 inches tall.
Carry on. ;)

I've never heard of cystinuria causing height deficiency! I am only 4 foot 10 inches. (That's very short for a 30 year old female!) Both of my younger sisters are taller than me. Interesting!

Well I'm 5"4, about 160cm i think...but if I'm shorter than I should be it might be due to my poor eating habits resulting from my eating disorder during adolescence. Can't really know.

My sisters are about my height, but oddly both of them outgrew me in shoe size...my feet haven't grown since I was about 11.

Huh.

I have never heard of that myself. I am 33 years old and 5'5". I was not diagnosed with cystinuria until the age of 20.

I was diagnosed with cystinuria a little less than a year ago and am five feet eleven inches tall, about average for my family. I do look very young for my age though (part of the reason why I grew a goatee as soon as I could :D ). Anyone else tend to look young for their age?

Well from the looks of the heights of the people that attended the First Cystinuria Symposium, July 16, 2005, in New York City I would say most were of average height. I didn't see any person that was exceptionally short there. There were 3 countries represented, Australia, England and the USA. Canada was also represented but not by a cystinuric.

There is some confusion with your doctor. I'm working with a professor doing a study on HOMOcystinuria, the opposite problem that we have, and they suffer from incredibly severe physical abnormalities & side effects, one being short stature.

"Due to deficiency of the CBS enzyme, infants with Homocystinuria may fail to grow and gain weight at the expected rate (failure to thrive) and have developmental delays."

I guess we should count our blessings.

This is an interesting topic. I am 5'3, but that may be partly due to genetics. BridgetJulia, that's interesting about the feet size, i have very small feet too, and so are my hands. I have had the same size hands since i was 10. They literally look like a little kids. Very short fingers, too. Thanx for the insight!

Matt, that's interesting about looking young, too. I look very young for my age, too. I am 22, but recently some women thought i was 14  LOL!
