Hello everyone, I can see by this board that we are all suffering here and I am so pained by it, just to read your stories leaves me feeling very sad. I am just so lost right now myself.
Okay, here is what just happened to me and what is goin on. I am 40 yrs old, been through this along time, since I was about 10 is when it started.Anyhow I'll spare you the details of the past and move to the present.
I am very well versed in this disease we have and I've been through enough to know what's going on in my own body, when I'm blocked by stoneage,etc.etc..something isn't right, yadda yadda yadda...

OK..deep breathe here... so I have this litho done on a rather nice size staghorn stone 1.7 mm each way estimated by Dr, hence the stone is in the upper pole. So he attempts to blast it(urologist) and does so, but then when he pulled the stint(stent?) out, after it being in me for 2 miserable agonizing weeks mind you, he said that I had some pieces or fragments still in the kidney and the ureter. And that they would just wash on through because the stint had stretched everything out...that being the ureter and kidney opening to the ureter. So, I come home, start passing stones, some are about 3-5mm in size.I'm thinking why are these so big and not blasted finer, smaller, better like last time he did this 6 years ago?
The pain was fierce of course after passing a nice little pile of some fine sand, but mostly larger painful pieces as I have said....then things slowed down and I was getting excited because the agony was leaving me.

A rude awakening of tremendous pain became the trek I have been on since this whole thing started 4 weeks ago now. I now have found out that 2 pieces are STUCK! Sooooooo, guess what that means? Another Lithotripsy, but this time the Holium laser will be used. I don't even know the difference between the holium and the ESWL,but i am gonna go read up.
So, he said I have to do this all over again and have a stint put back in for 2 MORE WEEKS!! WHY SO LONG IS WHAT IM ASKING? He knows the stint kills me and makes me crazy in pain. Then he doesn't even think I should be in that much pain and therefore he turns the other cheek.
So, I have a plan to get my painful pain in the butt home ASAP after the litho and treat my own pain w/ the drugs my MD so graciously gives me. I am so so mad at this Urologist for being so blaze about PAIN issue's. He is just a big jerk if you ask me. I am tired of this whole non-challant attitude about pain and the whole idea of no pain in the kidneys theory?!?!

So what do ya'll think? Do you think my Urologist should be be better about pain? How about YOUR DR.. Is he or she good about pain control after procedure's?
I'm so curious how all of you are coping w/ the agony......

Thoughout my experiences with my fiancee's disease I find many doctors are nonchalant about the extent of pain the person goes through. His doctor also told us that there is no pain in the kidney but J would beg to differ. I find that because this is not a common disease doctor's and hospital staff alike act like the pain is no big deal and that its just a "kidney stone"!
