Aside from taking the normal pain killers, does anyone have some alternative methods for soothing the pain associated with moving stones?
Sometimes it hurts so bad that i get that real sick to my stomach feeling, and i havn't found anything (again, short of meds) that effectivly dulls that either.
Any ideas?
Thanks,
~kathy

Hey Kathy! I would love to get out of this stone hel$ myself ~~ i definetely feel your pain. cuz i have Cystinuria. I'd love to know of a way to get out of this sides just taking danged medications and having strong side effects.
But here's a suggestion~~ when i was on a trip,i got into a hot tub to try and blast the sprays against me~ then the next day~a miracle~i passed the stone i'd been carrying for i'd been carrying for 17 months!!!!! i think i have a urethral diverticulum(i'm a woman)and it'dd been lodged down there. But now iv'e got another one that needs passing~nothing new~only like my 1,000th some one in the last few years!!! The 17 -month stone was a little less than an inch.My record have been two over time that were an inch.I also suggest ice packs if you can take it.
I wish i had the answer too,cuz i'm young and don't wanna live thru all this the rest of my life.
I'm so glad i found this board, and i'm here if you need support, rap anytime:)

Wow! That's alot of stones! I'm still a newbie at this whole thing, but if i keep passing them like i am now, i'll be righ there with you in a few years. :)
Thanks for the suggestions. I sometimes try to take a warn bath, but i've never thought of the jets before! Might be something good to try. :)

I was riding the bus yesterday and got thrown around quite alot (that's Ft. Collins public transportation for ya  ) and ended up passing two big stones that have been stuck for weeks! Maybe we should add bumpy bus rides to the list. :)
Thanks again for the suggestions.

LOL! Bus ride soundz lika good idea!:p Yeah,i was diagnosed when i was 14,i'm 19 now:eek: so iv'e had time to pass several.
I don't know when i first started forming em,maybe about 9,but i didn't know it~~~ i usta say my pee felt "chunky" and usta find these grains in my bed that'id call "the little balls",but i had no idea it was stones cuz i'd never hearda shucha thing.

Another kind of pain i have sides the back pain is "low pain" at the pee hole lika chronic urinary tracy infection, except ten times worse! Iv'e taken thousands of Uristats and other pain pills, but that kind pain is hel!Do ya know wattid be best for that type?

Anudder thing i recommend,if the pain's not as extreme and you want a go-between~somethin that won't be as strong as Hydrocode or Meperidine but stronger than aspirin, etc is Percogesic~you can get that OTC.It makes you groggy.
Hope i helped:)

I know this was posted quite awhile ago, but I just wanted to add that when my stones are moving from the kidney area to the bladder, I actually get great relief from taking Alieve. Its the only over the counter medicine thats ever even put a dent in the pain and usually works long enough for me to get some of the stronger meds. I've noticed that when the pain is low such as from having a stent it doesn't help though. Give it a try, it may just work for you also. Good luck,
Rick

Hey "Alabama"!

I think I know this pain of which you speak... I treat it much like a UTI 'cause that's kinda what it is, I think. Anyhoo, when I start getting that pain I take an herbal tincture of Goldenseal/ Echinacea, which is excellent for most infections. Of course, I always try and up my water consumption that much more if I'm taking the tincture just to make sure everything's flushing properly.

Hope that helps!
